【挑戦を躊躇する落差】
昨日は1年半ぶりのレースで21kmを走り、自分の筋力不足を不甲斐なく感じました。しかし運動らしい運動をしていなかった数年前の自分から見ると、21kmも走れること自体が想像できません。ぼくの周りでは100kmや100マイルのレースに挑戦する人が年々増え、もしかしたら自分も走れるのではないかという希望がわきます。
出来る人間にとっては簡単なことでも、できない人間には想像ができないという、この落差があるから人は挑戦を躊躇するのだと思います。スポーツの力は、やればできるということを教えてくれます。
昨日は人の力を実感することにもなりました。ゴール直前にいた友人をはじめ沿道の応援、とくに米兵のノリの良いハイタッチには力をもらいました。

【緊迫感のない横田基地】
今日は横田基地で第37回フロストバイトロードレースに出ました。普段は全く走っておらず1年半ぶりのレースで、ハーフマラソンとはいえ11km地点で太ももが上がらなくなり、15km地点ではひざが痛みゴールした後は歩くのも精一杯です。トレイルレースのロード対策の練習が目的ですので、21kmを走れたことだけでよしとします。
滑走路の端から見る奥多摩の山々は、あたかもロス郊外のような日本離れした景色です。お祭りムードの基地内に北朝鮮情勢の緊迫化は感じられず、C130輸送機が整然と整列しています。

今日は普段離れて生活することの多い娘の高校の保護者会に行きました。学食で食べた360円のカレーは微妙な値段ですが、それなりに洗練されています。
未知の環境、困難な状況でサバイバルな経験をさせることを通じて、主体性と挑戦意欲を喚起するという教育方針は今の時代に必要なものだと思います。このように学校が変わり始めたことは未来への希望が持てます。

理想がない企業は惰性で仕事をします。社員も生きがいを感じられないので問題が起きます。高度だと思われていたホワイトカラーの仕事をAIが奪う時代になると、惰性で働くホワイトカラーはいらなくなります。他方で、儲ける仕組みの出来上がった組織で働いてきた人は、その歯車としてしか稼ぐことができないので、企業への依存を強めます。依存はやがて抜けられなくなりますので、愚痴を言いながら働き続けるのでお互いにとって不幸な状況になります。今のぼくはお金の不安はありますが、サラリーマン時代よりストレスは軽くなり幸福感も増しました。何をしてでも食べていく方法はあるはずだという根拠なき自信がついたことがこの一年の最大の成長かもしれません。

この一年で新たに知り合った人の多くは、私が30年来のサラリーマン生活で会ってきた人とは異質です。男性の場合はスーツを着ないこと、自分よりかなり年下が多いこと、複数の仕事を持っていることなどです。さらに大半の人が昔ながらのバブリーな消費に関心が薄く、お金をかけずに生活に潤いをもたらす方法を知っています。自分の境遇が変わっただけではなく時代が大きく動き始めたのだと思います。社員を信用せず、子ども扱いして規則で縛り付ける従来の企業には違和感を覚えます。
写真は本文と関係ありませんが、ラブラドールが人目を盗んで鍋に残ったパエリアを食べていた証拠です。イモトアヤコのような太く見える眉毛はそのときについたものです。もちろん人間の食べ物は与えていません。
