【同じ場所に行きたがる日本人】
昨日は秘境として知られる檜枝岐村にある会津駒ケ岳（2,133m）に登りました。会津駒ヶ岳から中門岳へと続く雪渓の残る高層湿原の美しさが印象的な山です。福島に来るまでは縁のない山でしたが、東京から出ても登山口までは4時間ほどと遠くはありません。スピードハイクなら往復しても正味3時間と気楽に登れ、尾瀬を凌ぐ美しさながら木道が渋滞することもありません。「夏の思い出」の影響力もあって、尾瀬はマーケティングで成功した観光地の最右翼でしょう。自然を感じることができない混む山はそもそも評価外で、尾瀬は一度行ったきりです。人と同じ場所に行きたがる日本人は不思議です。

【山があれば旅行はいらない】
夏のバカンスシーズンが始まりますが、この10年ほど楽しむための旅行をすることがなくなりました。旅行はほぼ仕事か半分仕事です。一定の必然性が前提で、自分の知識や身体能力を高めてくれない旅行には魅力を感じません。毎週行く日本工学院も、早朝の高尾山に行けば小旅行です。昔は海外旅行に行けば幸せになれるとステレオタイプに信じていましたが、疲れて成田に戻った時の旅の余韻も消えたあの気だるさをいつも疑問に感じていました。欧米では旅行をしない層が一定数いると聞きますが、近所に走れる気持ちのよい山があればそれで十分です。

昨日のことのように話してしまう1980年代が遠い昔であるように、自分が年を重ねたと自覚するのは味覚の変化に気づくときです。いまの季節だと冷奴や漬物など、さっぱりしたものを食べたいと思います。他方で体力の低下など身体的な加齢を意識することはそれほどありません。50歳を過ぎてから運動を始めたのが幸いして、体力はむしろ向上していて運動をすると自己肯定感も高まります。それでも人生を折り返した現実は意識せざるを得ません。この年齢になるとお金よりも自由に使える時間が必要です。以前は時間を犠牲にして稼ぐ感覚でしたが、今は生活ができるなら、拘束されない自由や自分を高揚させる時間が一番貴重です。

ディスタンスラーニングにより世界中で誰もが最先端の知見に触れることができる時代になると学校での授業の意味は変わります。教員にはファシリテーションができる一定の知識は必要ですが、双方が教えあい、知恵を出し合うコラボレーションの場が対面授業のあり方だと思います。昨日は学生と未来の企業について話していて、平成の失われた30年がラグビー型経営だとすると、未来の企業はアメフト型経営だという話になりました。スポーツカレッジらしく学生の発想はスポーツ中心でユニークです。

自分が年を取ったと自覚するのは、学生に1980年代の話をしてしまうときです。立教大学で授業を始めた頃は「皆さんが生まれた頃ですね」と言えたのですが、今の学生にとっては生まれる20年近く前の話です。自分に置き換えると戦争中の話をされているようなものです。就職した1980年代は、激動の昭和が終わったエポックメイキングな時代であり社会人の原風景と言えます。1980年から再来年には40年を迎え、自分の生まれた年から遡ると関東大震災の昔です。1980年代の象徴といえば、狂乱の幕開けとなったニューヨークのプラザホテルでしょう。
