【大量高速輸送は善なのか】
昨日は新幹線で新甲子温泉に行きました。日本唯一の新幹線停車駅を持つ村である西郷との間をこれほど往復しながら新幹線で行くのは初めてです。東京駅から1時間20分で着くとはいえ片道6,870円は多拠点居住の最大の障害で、車なら一人で行っても1,500円です。経済成長の象徴のような大量高速輸送がこれからの日本に必要とは思いません。世界最高の新幹線技術を誇らしく思う一方で、なぜ早く遠くに行く必要があるのか、進歩の概念自体に疑問を感じます。結局のところ技術革新は早く遠くへより多くという競争が背景にあり、それを体現するのが戦争です。人類史上これほど高速で人間が移動した時代はなく、生体リズムを狂わせるとぼくは考えています。

【無自覚な労働】
昨日の朝は通勤時間帯に大手町、丸の内に行きました。2年前まではよく通った地下街を同じような服を着たサラリーマンやOLが無表情に目当てのビルに向かいます。スターバックスにいると多くの人がテイクアウトしたコーヒーをもって足早にオフィスに向かいます。こうした日常を積み重ねた先に望む人生があるのでしょうか。たいした仕事が待っているわけでもないオフィスに毎朝行かなくてはならない不自由さは耐え難いものでした。働くことに生きがいを感じ、自覚的に働いている人は何割ぐらいいるのか考えてしまいます。「働き方」改革の議論は「働かせ方」改革の議論に終始していて主体性が感じられません。生きがいと才能は自分で引き出すしかないと今は思います。

【豊かな暮らしとは無縁の嗜好品】
昨日は青山に行きました。ポルシェは当たり前としてマイバッハやベントレーのクーペ、ロールスロイスのファントムなどの高級車をよく見かけます。これらの高級車は豊かさの象徴として、ハノイやジャカルタなど途上国の都市部でも、むしろ東京以上の頻度で見かけます。美しく磨かれた車に高そうな服を着て暮らしぶりの良さそうな人が乗る姿を見ると違和感を覚えます。豊かな暮らしという幻想と巧妙なプロモーションが生み出したニーズは虚構であり、人間性豊かな暮らしとは無縁の嗜好品にしか見えないのです。一方で青山のホンダで見た商用車のN-VANは欲しいと思いました。二人が車内に泊まれ、早朝から遠くの山に出かけることもできるし、これ1台があれば自分の生活が広がっていきそうです。幸せが足元にありながら、誘惑に満ちた現代社会で幸せな人生を送ることは簡単ではありません。

【屋外活動に求められる慎重さ】
山で熱中症になったラブラドールが病院から帰ってきました。尿が赤みがかっていたのは熱中症と脱水により筋細胞内の成分が血中に流出したことによるそうです。平ヶ岳への稜線が岩山と砂礫だった為に肉球には火傷を負っていました。都会のアスファルトは昼間歩かないようにしていたのですが、涼を求めて行くはずの山でも状況は同じです。人が鎖なしには登れない数メートルの岩壁を登る高い運動能力と、30km程度の山道なら問題なく走れるラブラドールの体力を過信した結果です。ぼくが初めてリタイアした一昨年のハセツネカップ日本山岳耐久レースも気温上昇と高い湿度を読み誤った為ですが、夏場の屋外活動にはより慎重な計画が求められることを痛感する週末でした。

日が落ちると20度を切る新甲子温泉で過ごし、昨夜は熱中症で立つのもやっとだったラブラドールは元気を取り戻しました。念のため動物病院に預け経過観察をしてもらいます。平ヶ岳からの最後の数kmの下山道を倒れながらも必死について来てくれたこと、清流で体を十分に冷やせたこと、清流から駐車場までがわずか数百mだったことなど幸運が重なり事なきを得ました。日が昇りきらない早朝に出発すれば、後半は下りだから大丈夫と熱中症リスクを過小評価していました。毛皮を着て、発汗による冷却ができず、地表温度をまともに受けてしまう犬に対する見積もりの甘さは否めません。もはや人が健全な生活を送れない暑さの日本では、オリンピックへの心配もさることながら、夏場のスポーツのあり方を見直す必要があると思います。
